Along the wall by my office is a set of pictures showing the history of the United States. Select one and read about it on the card, then research it here. Find the image of the poster you found interesting, click on it to read about it, then select Resources to find out additional information. Picturing America

Posted by: rlawrence5 | January 9, 2009 | 17 Comments |This site was written by students to teach about early Explorers of the North American continent. Read their short descriptions in the middle of the page and select 2-3 explorers to read about. Click on their name on the left hand side of the page.
After reading about the explorers, tell a bit about one who sticks out in your mind more than the others. Why does he stand out? What are some attributes that you believe are needed to be an explorer?
2009 – A new year
Posted by: rlawrence5 | January 2, 2009 | 95 Comments |As a teacher, this is really mid-year…well, kind of. =D We’re about a third of the way through the school as it starts in August and ends in August for us “year-rounders”. It’s a new calendar year, though, and time for those annual resolutions. I guess my professional goal is to get a blog started with one to two groups of students before January is over with. I’m emailing a couple of teachers right now (yeah I’m either multi-tasking or allowing myself to run off on another tangent….might get distracted by my email…LOL)
My personal goal this year will be to get back to hiking and hopefully (notice I’m not 100% positive here!!! =D) go back to rock climbing in the gym. My plan is to take the dogs and hike on both Sat. and Sun. and “right” after work, at least three times a week – Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. I may even wear my hiking boots to work on those days and set up my backpack the night before to make sure I am ready.
So…what’s your resolution or a goal for 2009 and how are you planning to get there?
Learning to blog
Posted by: rlawrence5 | June 14, 2008 | 15 Comments |I thought that one goal for this next school year would be to use blogging. I guess I’m visualizing as sort of an on-line journal or electronic learning log. This first post is just for practice, but if you’re interested in blogging, here’s a link to blogging tips from Edublog. Blogging tips If you’ve done blogging with your class, share how it’s working out.
